The Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) invites you to join their Citizen Science program this February. ‘Find a Frog in February’ is a program that encourages all people to get outside, find frogs and send their information in to the MRCCC.
This program involves the whole community in the Noosa, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Gympie and Fraser Coast council regions which includes the Mary River catchment and coastal river catchments from Peregian to Burrum Heads and Fraser Island (K’Gari).
Hop on over to the webpage: http://mrccc.org.au/find-a-frog-in-february-citizen-science/ You will find great information about our frogs a Frog Finders Guide and Record Sheets.
We have over frog 40 species that live within this area and 10 of these are either extinct or threatened, mainly due to habitat loss and disease. Frogs can be the ‘canary in the coal mine’; telling us of changes in our ecosystems, from rainforests, to wallum and urban areas. We need to know more about the whereabouts of many species across this broad area so we can better look after them!
Get involved…step out into your own outdoor adventure….join the ‘Find a Frog in February’ Facebook Group and be a part of something fun and important for our frog populations.
The MRCCC gratefully acknowledges the support for this program from: The Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Noosa Council, Gympie Regional Council and the Fraser Coast Council. (Appreciation to Cathey Osborne for her generous gift of Celtic frog design for our logo)
